In all of these methods, grounding wires work to limit voltage to increase personnel safety, minimize the chance of over voltage, and provide a source of electrical ground current relay which allows for fast fault clearing.

In order to have an effective grounding process require the following steps:

  • A grounding wire which is connected to an internal part of an appliance or to an external portion of a home
  • A grounding rod or a copper water pipe
  • The presence of a positive electrical charge that is directed through the grounding wire into the negative charge in the soil of the ground to be discharged safely
